Dr. Greg Daniel Settles WNY Immediate Care Dispute with BCBS
Monday, December 23, 2013
Dr. Greg Daniel has been a trailblazer in the innovation of healthcare delivery services in Western New York. After serving his residency in Buffalo, he went on to create a hospital services and outpatient care enterprise, The Exigence Group, which served over 750,000 patients over its 10-year lifespan. This pioneer program is seen as benchmark for urgent care facilities nationwide. In 2012, Dr. Greg Daniel sold this enterprise to TeamHealth, one of the United States’ most expansive and premier hospital based services company. Dr. Daniel stayed on to serve as President of the company’s National Urgent Care division. TeamHealth is now the management company of WNY Immediate Care and several other urgent care brands across the country.
In his position, Dr. Greg Daniel was faced with a major dilemma. WNY Immediate Care is a part of the BlueCross BlueShield health network, but in November 2013, BlueCross BlueShield announced that it would be cancelling TeamHealth’s contract.
Dr. Greg Daniel and Western New York Immediate Care appealed to the New York State Supreme Court with the matter. In December, the Supreme Court ruled in WNY Immediate Care’s favor, reinforcing its status as in-network. “We’re pleased with the court’s decision. Our goal remains the same: To provide the very highest quality healthcare to our community. Value, access and accountability are hallmarks of our organization,” said Dr. Greg Daniel.
In a statement, BlueCross BlueShield stated:
“We continue to advocate for lower costs and highest quality for our members,” it said. “In addition to Western New York Immediate Care’s five locations, there are an additional twelve urgent-care-center locations in Erie County that remain in BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York’s provider network."
Urgent care sites operated by WNY Immediate Care can be found in Amherst, Williamsville, Orchard Park, Cheektowaga and Buffalo.
